Working with local artist Spencer Jenkins, the children have produced some art work that we hope will become a talking point as the local community walk and drive past the Avenue Road school.
The project began with a group of children attending a Saturday morning club over several weeks. The children learn all about willow weaving under Spencer's excellent guidance and they eventually designed some different characters that they felt symbolised what Wembrook is all about.Five characters were chosen which Spencer took away to make a life size steel structure which would support the weaving. Then, over several months, every child from Nursery to Year Six had a go at weaving willow on to the main characters.
The school is immensely proud of the final results and would like to thank Spencer for all his hard work and creativity. We would also like to thanks the Friends of Wembrook who generously supported this unique project.
